My Journey as an International Student at Tallinn University: A Fusion of Cultures and Learning

Grace Agnes Rozario

Studying at Tallinn University in the Communication Management program has been exhilarating adventure. As an international student hailing from Dhaka, Bangladesh, I’ve found myself immersed in a cultural mosaic that is both enriching and transformative. One of the highlights of this semester has been the course “KOI7067.FK Basics of Intercultural Communication” and telecollaboration project with students from the University of Louisiana Monroe (USA), which truly showcased the beauty of diversity and the challenges it brings.

Our group was an eclectic mix, with members from Bangladesh, Ukraine, and the USA. This multicultural dynamic opened a window into varied perspectives. While we faced hurdles, such as time zone discrepancies and cultural distinctions, these challenges became opportunities for growth. Coordinating meetings across different time zones sharpened our time management skills, while navigating cultural nuances taught us the art of empathy and adaptability.

The mentorship of Professor Anastassia Zabrodskaja and Professor Sara Kim has been nothing short of inspiring. Their warmth and inclusivity created a supportive environment where we felt encouraged to voice our ideas and explore creative solutions. Their guidance made our academic journey not just educational but truly enjoyable.

Through the telecollaboration, I discovered the power of communication as a bridge between worlds. Despite linguistic and cultural variations, our shared commitment to the project fostered a sense of camaraderie. We turned our ideas into a vibrant blog that reflects not just our academic goals but our shared human experience.

Being in Tallinn, surrounded by its picturesque landscapes and rich history, has deepened my appreciation for cross-cultural exchange. I am immensely grateful for this opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to a global dialogue. My time here has been a tapestry of learning, connection, and personal transformation—a chapter I will treasure forever.
