From Doubt to Direction: My Journey with Communication Management
When I first discovered the Communication Management MA programme at Tallinn University, I was at a crossroads. I knew I wanted to work with people, stories, and strategy, but I did not yet see how all of that could come together into a clear professional path. Choosing this programme felt like a leap of faith. Looking back now, I can say with a full heart that it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Finding My Voice in an International Classroom
Walking into our first seminar, I remember feeling both excited and intimidated. There were students from different countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds, each bringing their own experiences and perspectives. Very quickly, I realised this diversity was not just a nice extra; it was one of the programme’s greatest strengths. Discussions were lively and, at times, challenging. We explored how communication shapes organisations, societies, and identities. I learned to listen more deeply, to speak more thoughtfully, and to appreciate how context and culture influence every message we send and receive. Over time, I noticed something changing in myself: I started to trust my own voice.
A Standout Experience: AI-Empowered Management Consulting in Rome
One of the most outstanding experiences this programme gave me was the opportunity to participate in the BIP ‘AI-Empowered Management Consulting’ at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. This was more than just a course; it was an immersion into the future of our field. Working in international, interdisciplinary teams, we explored how AI can support management consulting, strategic decision-making, and complex communication challenges. I still remember the feeling of sitting with my team, combining communication theory with data, technology, and business thinking. I was proud to represent Tallinn University and even prouder to realize how prepared I was to work under pressure, collaborate across cultures, and bring a clear communication perspective to technical and strategic conversations. This experience confirmed something important for me: communication professionals are needed at every table where decisions are made.

Turning Challenges into Growth
Of course, the journey was not always easy. There were evenings when deadlines, readings, and projects felt overwhelming. There were moments of self-doubt:
- Am I good enough?
- Can I really keep up with all of this?
What made the difference was the support around me. Our lecturers did not just ‘teach’: they guided, challenged, and believed in us. Feedback was honest but encouraging. We were pushed to think critically, to question assumptions, and to look at problems from multiple angles. My classmates became more than fellow students; they became a community. We shared notes, ideas, worries, laughs, and countless coffees. Some of my favourite memories are the simple ones:
- Discussing case studies long after the class had ended.
- Laughing together while finalising presentations late at night.
- Celebrating each other’s successes, big and small.
Through all of this, I realised that growth does not come from perfection. It comes from showing up consistently, being willing to learn, and not giving up when things feel difficult.
How the Programme Shaped My Career
Since completing the Communication Management MA, I see the programme’s impact in my daily work again and again. I use what I’ve learned to:
- Design and implement strategic communication plans.
- Analyse stakeholders and understand their needs and expectations.
- Work sensitively and effectively across cultures.
- Translate complex ideas into simple, human messages that people can connect with.
However, beyond skills and tools, the programme gave me a mind-set: A combination of curiosity, responsibility, empathy, and confidence. It taught me that communication is not just about what we say, but how we listen, how we build relationships, and how we create meaning together.
A Heartfelt Message to Future and Current Students
If you are thinking about studying Communication Management at Tallinn University, or if you’ve just started the programme, this is my message to you:
- Be open: Say yes to new experiences, projects, and collaborations. Join that group discussion, volunteer for that presentation, apply for that exchange or BIP programme. You might be surprised by how much you grow outside your comfort zone.
- Be curious: Ask questions. Read beyond the required materials. Observe how communication works in everyday life: in organisations, media, politics, and personal relationships. Curiosity will be one of your strongest assets.
- Be kind to yourself: It’s normal to feel lost or overwhelmed sometimes. You don’t have to have everything figured out on day one. Progress is built step by step, assignment by assignment, conversation by conversation.
- And most importantly: believe that your story matters. Your background, languages, culture, and experiences are not obstacles; they are unique strengths you bring into the field of communication. The world needs professionals who understand complexity, respect difference, and can connect people through meaningful dialogue.
Looking Back with Gratitude, Looking Forward with Hope
When I think about my journey in the Communication Management programme at Tallinn University, what I feel most strongly is gratitude. Gratitude for the knowledge I gained. Gratitude for the opportunities; like the AI-empowered Management Consulting experience in Rome that opened my eyes to new possibilities. Gratitude for the people: professors, mentors, classmates, and friends who made the journey richer, kinder, and more inspiring. This programme did not just prepare me for a career. It helped me become a more confident, reflective, and engaged person. If you are considering taking this path, I sincerely hope you give yourself the chance. You might discover, as I did, that Communication Management at Tallinn University is not just a study programme, it can be the starting point of a deeply meaningful journey.
