The film explores the personal gap between two man from different generations. Story wraps around the filmmaker and his 80-year old grandfather Vello, who is well-known by his life-lasting career as a sailor, coach and vessel engineer. Vello has been desperately trying to pass his talent to his offspring but so far no luck.
Director: Mihkel Oksmann is an Estonian documentary filmmaker, who comes from a family of sailors. His passion for documentary arts flowered during BA studies at the Estonian Academy of Arts. He graduated from the Documentary MA at the Baltic Film and Media School (cum laude, 2018). His thesis film 'A-Well Kept Secret' was awarded the Best Student Film at Ji.hlava IDFF (2018). His artistic style is a combination of Baltic minimalism, a touch of black humour and good-natured warmth towards his film subjects. In 2019, he was granted a stipend from the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation for a 11-month full-time internship in New York. His co-directed documentary short ‘Wedding Officiant’ won the Best Documentary Short award at Oslo FF (2021).
